PoMMax Pomegranate Extract
Full-Spectrum Pomegranate Fruit Extracts
75% Polyphenols, 15% Punicalagins & 2.5% Ellagic Acid
Botanical source: the whole fruits of Punica granatum L.
Chemical constituents: The fruit of Pomegranate is rich in potent polyphenolic antioxidants,
particularly ellagitannins: Punicalagins, Punicalin, and Gallic Acid, etc.
Punicalagins are unique polyphenols that are found most abundantly in
Pomegranate juice. They are therefore viewed as ideal markers for Pomegranate
derived products. Punicalagins are metabolized into Ellagic Acid after
consumption, and they are considered to be an 'adoptic' precursor for Ellagic
Acid, which is only present at low levels (around 1%) as free Ellagic Acid in
Pomegranate fruit. Pomegranate extracts with high levels of Ellagic Acid
(20%-80%) are generally achieved by adding purified Ellagic Acid from other
sources to the extract.
Pharmacology and clinicals: Pomegranate fractions with Ellagic Acid have been
extensively studied and noted for their strong anti-cancer and antioxidant
activities [1-4]. However, being insoluble in water, Ellagic Acid can only be
absorbed and utilized by human body after consumption of Punicalagins as one of
their metabolites [1]. It has also been suggested that the anti-cancer and
antioxidant benefits of Pomegranate reported by numerous studies derive from the
synergistic effects of the full spectrum of components found in the whole fruit,
rather than just the Ellagic Acid or other isolated pure chemicals alone [2-4].
Analytical specifications:
ProfileProven Full-Spectrum Pomegranate fruit
extract is controlled to contain the key compounds present in a whole
Pomegranate fruit according to the ideal proportion set by nature to ensure the
100% benefit of the fruit. The content of Total Polyphenols (>
75%) is tested by Folin-Ciocalteau method,
and the potencies of Punicalagins (> 15%) and Ellagic acid (> 2.5%) are
determined and HPLC analysis. Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and
standardization of active principals of product ensure that all batches meet
specifications.
