Brain Support
Clearly one of the best brain support formulas available;
containing 60 mg. of standardized Ginkgo Biloba Extract and Acetyl L-carnitine,
along with the trademarked ingredients Phosphatidyl Serine, and DHA (Neuromins).
Ginkgo Biloba leaf extract: Ginkgo Biloba is valuable as a brain enhancing herb as it increases blood flow
to the brain and aids in the recovery and prevention of strokes.
Phosphatidyl Serine: Phosphatidyl Serine is a phospholipid compound derived from soy lecithin
that plays an essential role in cell membrane composition and intercellular
communication. Phosphatidyl Serine is a major structural component of neural
membranes where it asists in the conduction of electrical impulses and
facilitates the activity of neurotransmittters involved in learning, memory and
mood. These properties make Phosphatidyl Serine an ideal supplement for the
support of cognitive function.
From the FDA's website: "Consumption of phosphatidylserine may reduce the
risk of dementia in the elderly. Very limited and preliminary scientific
research suggests that phosphatidylserine may reduce the risk of dementia in the
elderly. FDA concludes that there is little scientific evidence supporting this
claim."
Acetyl L-carnitine: As we age, our natural production of ACL gradually shows signs of decline.
Incorporating this stabilized form of L-Carnitine into our diet is an effective
way to ensure that we're producing the energy we need to live full and active
lives.
DHA (Neuromins): Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid, is
the building block of human brain tissue. It is the primary structural fatty
acid in the gray matter of the brain and retina of the eye. Humans obtain DHA
from their diets, initially through the placenta and from breast milk. DHA is
essential for brain and eye development and for mental and visual function. Fish
provide a rich source of DHA but, like humans, fish do not adequately synthesize
it. They obtain DHA from microalgae, its original source and the source of DHA
in Neuromins brand of DHA, produced from micro-algae under tightly controlled
food manufacturing conditions, provides the only vegetarian source of DHA.
Specific behavioral and learning problems have also been
shown to correlate significantly with low DHA levels. Dyslexia, a learning
disorder marked by impairment of the ability to recognize and comprehend written
words, has been correlated with sub optimal DHA levels. Stordy (1995) reported
that DHA supplementation in adult dyslexics improved rod dark adaptation or
night vision. Stordy also reported anecdotal evidence that DHA supplementation
improves dyslexics' reading ability and behavior.
Our Ginkgo Biloba is manufactured under strict quality control standards. Like
all European herbal extracts, the extraction is regulated according to quality
standards that exceed regulatory standards in the U.S.
