Chemical constituents: Rhodiola rosea contains many bioactive compounds, including: flavonoids, amino acids, polysaccharides and others. The most bioactive components in Rhodiola rosea are a group of glucosides of cinnamyl alcohol, primarily rosin, rosavin and rosarin [1]. Another compound, salidroside is also considered to be valued for bioactivity, and is widely used as a reference standard for the extract. According to the Russian pharmacopoeia, the raw Rhodiola rosea must contain a minimum of 0.8% salidroside. There is a similarity of chemical structures between salidroside and syringin (eleutheroside B) isolated from Eleutherococcus senticosus.
