SAMe (S-Adenosy-L-Methiodine) 
 

In Europe SAM-e as well as many herbs are sold as prescription drugs. In Italy SAM-e is a popular antidepressant and holds 12 percent of the market almost twice that of of the popular drug Prozac. In Germany SAM-e is prescribed by doctors because of its potent anti-arthritic properties.

SAM-e a substance found in the body, produced as a derivative from yeast and sold overseas as a treatment for depression and arthritis. Doctors have stated that SAM-e has shown potent anti-depressant effects without the bad side effects of current antidepressants, complaints of anxiety and low sex drive.

Dr. Richard Brown of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons found SAM-e in the literature more than 5 years ago and started some of his patients on the imported substance. He said he was initially surprised when some of his more drug resistant patients began improving.

SAMe--a substance that occurs naturally in the body--have proven to combat not only
depression but also aging, osteoarthritis, and certain liver disorders. SAMe has been
sold in Europe as a natural supplement for more than 20 years, but it was only recently
approved by the FDA for sale in the U.S.
